I have a vision, a resurrection vision. From the ground to the sky, Byrd School rises back to its proper place — a historic building in Selma, Alabama that has been abandoned for years located next door to our home, Byrdland Home and Gallery. I believe it can become something extraordinary — a place where artists live and work, where children learn to make art, where creativity becomes the answer to renewal. It is my personal mission to present this vision to the City of Selma and to work together toward making it a reality. In the Year of the Firehorse, the time is now. The first thing to do is clean the school. One step at a time, one room at a time, one painting at a time.
