A Vision for
Byrd School
Calling all Byrd School Alumni — and anyone who believes in the power of a dream.
Byrd School is a historic building in Selma, Alabama — empty for years, sitting next door to our home at Byrdland. I believe it can become something remarkable. A place where artists live and work. Where children learn to make art. Where creativity becomes the answer to everything this community has been through.
It is my personal mission to bring this vision to the City of Selma and make it real.
In the Year of the Firehorse, the time is now.
The first step is to clean the school.
One third of Byrd School is clean. Two thirds remain, plus a jungle out back that needs taming.
I make art to bring joy into the world. 50% of every Joy Byrd sale goes directly to the cleanup of Byrd School.
Purchase two JoyByrds for $175 or a single Joy Byrd for $100 — original paintings personally selected by the artist. Be part of this story of renewal.

Joy Byrds are 6" x 6" paintings of Très' sweet birds and colorful spirals. Each is painted on tarpaper, mounted on a small wooden cradle frame. Your two Joy Byrds will be personally selected by the artist. All are joyful! Each piece comes with a small card telling the story of William Guadalupe, the Patron Saint of Sunflowers, Birdsongs, and the Broken-Hearted.
Thank you for supporting Byrd School!
